A home pregnancy test helps you determine whether or not you are pregnant. You can buy it without a prescription, and it is very easy to use. The instructions for use are written in detail on the packet or in a leaflet that comes with the test. All you have to do is read and follow. There is no blood, no poking or prodding, and no pain.

Home pregnancy test kits are available at any drug store without any prescription. Generally, this kit can detect pregnancy if used on the first day of a missed menstrual period. However, the test results are more accurate if one waits a few days longer.

The test detects the presence of a hormone called the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the urine sample, preferably early morning sample.

With the home test kit, one has to place a drop of urine on the prepared chemical strip. It usually takes 1 or 2 minutes for the strip to indicate the result. The results are either positive or negative for pregnancy.

Even though home pregnancy tests are considered reliable, it is always advisable to consult the gynecologist before taking any further steps.
